Abstract:

These data were used for the analysis presented in the publication cited below; see the Methods section in the article for details.<br> The model data were created using EC-Earth3-AerChem. <br> <br> We conducted five main experiments, each spanning 12 years (2009–2020) under present-day climate conditions. Each experiment applied a different ice nucleation parameterization scheme for the MPC regime: <br> 1. “Meyers”: baseline temperature-dependent deposition-condensation-freezing scheme (Meyers et al., 1992). <br> 2. “Harrison”: dust-sensitive parameterization accounting for immersion freezing of K-feldspar and quartz (Harrison et al., 2019). <br> 3. “Harrison_Wilson” (H+W ): Harrison scheme plus marine organic aerosol parameterization (Wilson et al., 2015). <br> 4. “HWRaFSIPv1”: H+W scheme combined with RaFSIPv1 (Georgakaki and Nenes, 2024), based on ice enhancement factors. <br> 5. “HWRaFSIPv2”: H+W scheme combined with RaFSIPv2 (Georgakaki and Nenes, 2024), predicting secondary ice via a random forest model, independently of primary ice. <br> <br> Additionally, there are two 12-year nudged experiments (“Meyers_nudged” and “HWRaFSIPv2_nudged”), as well as four additional 1-year experiments (2018): “Meyers”, “HWRaFSIPv2”, and the supersaturation-adjusted runs in MPC (“Meyers_sat_adj_-38” and “HWRaFSIPv2_sat_adj_-38”), extending the temperatures where supersaturation can occur to -38 °C. <br> <br> All diagnostics are presented as mean values of monthly averages over the entire simulation period.
