The BSC's Computational Social Sciences Laboratory is a pioneering initiative in an European supercomputing centre, works to find new applications of data and supercomputing in social science research, including the fields of economics, political science, sociology, anthropology, geography, psychology and cognitive science, and in the digital humanities (an area of research where computing and the humanities converge, applied to fields such as history, literature, linguistics, archaeology and cultural heritage).

Vast amounts of historical documents are preserved in Catalan archives, many of which have been digitized as images. The aim of our research line is to build datasets, train models, and develop tools for processing and extracting information from these historical documents, enabling more efficient exploration and analysis of archival collections.
